September 2nd, 1964, Horticulture, Oddity-Mushroom, it`s a stink horn- the fungus, in a photo in Wednesday`s Daily Graphic has been identified by G.G Grigg of Portage, as a “stink horn” form of mushroom-and it does stink, Mr. Grigg said they often appear where a tree has been taken out, it is a parasite and foods on decaying vegetable matter, the stink horn, said Mr. Grigg looks like an egg when it comes out of the ground. “It’s an old form of mushroom, and dates back before the life span of man.” The former Portage Collegiate chemistry teacher explained. What is it? Mr. W.H. Crealock and everybody else who’s seen it are wondering what this “thing” is that she found growing in her yard, the stalk is creamy white and the top, or crown as it might be called, is a mottled dark green and white.
