Grain harvesting around Portage
Portage farmers are happy in their work this fall as ideal harvest weather these past few days days [sic] has made the growing almost perfect. Moisture in abundance and hot sunny days are doing their work in filling and ripening the 1952 grain, which indicates higher than usual yields as Portage district farmers are busy swathing, cutting and combining the fields. Here we have Garfield Sis- sons, who farms three quarters off a mile west of Portage on the north side of No. 1 Highway, on the combine doing the first round on his oat crop. Mr. Sissons wouldn't venture a guess as to the yield per acre — but he was happy and said the grain was of excellent quality and yield and would be considerably better in all respects than the 1951 Crop.
