Tashiro October 25 1956 #575 Air Cadets PORTAGE AIR CADETS IN SPECIAL PARADE A proud moment – H. Brook smith, president of the provincial committee of the Air Cadets league presents the Guthrie Shield for Manitoba to Flight Lieutenant W. C. Warren, commanding officer No. 575 Portage Terrier Air Cadet squadron. The award is presented annually to the most proficient squadron in Manitoba. It was the first opportunity the Portage squadron had to compete for the shield. WO.2 Edward Dillon receives the Larry Marsh trophy medallion on behalf of the Portage Air Cadet Squadron No. 575. Flight Lieutenant W. C. Warren, cadet commanding officer, made the presentation. The Portage cadets won the trophy for being the most efficiently drilled squadron in Canada. Mrs. H. J. Owens of 72 Tupper street south was one of the three proud mothers who Thursday night presented Air Cadet Wings to their sons. She is shown pinning wings on her son Michael. Wayne Marty, a member of Portage Air Cadet Squadron No. 575, Thursday night was presented with his Air Cadet Wings, equivalent to a pilot’s license. His mother, Mrs. O. Marty, formerly of Macdonald and now of Mather, Man., pinned the wings on her son’s chest. Ted Boyachuk, was one of the three members of the Portage Air Cadet squadron who received their Air Cadet wings Thursday night. His mother, Mrs. Peter Boyachuk of Portage is shown pinning on his wings.
