(Tashiro) Jan. 13/70 Special Crops Sub-Station

1,200 Test Samples of Flax Being Threatened at Special Crops Station

A stalk at a time - That's flax being fed into a special thresher at the Crops Sub-Station in Portage where an unusual harvest is underway. Here Harold Simpson feeds the little machine while Cecil Green keeps track of every tiny package of seed. 1,200 crosses are being threshed.

Imagine the job of feeding this pile of flax - one stalk at a time - through a thresher. Tom Chesney, officer in charge at the Special Crops Sub-Station here contemplates the chore facing his staff for the remainder of the winter months. There's some 1,200 flax crosses in this pile.
