WING COMMANDER O. B. Philp, DFC, CD, OC CENTENNIAL AEROBATIC TEAM.
Commanding Officer Centennial Aerobatic Team- Wing commander O. B. Philp, DFC, CD, has been appointed to command the Centennial Aerobatic Team that is being formed at Canadian Forces Base Portage la Prairie. WC. Commander Philp was born in Sidney, B.C., in 1923. He enlisted in the RCAF in November of 1941 and graduated as a pilot in 1942. His wartime action saw him as a tactical pilot in the United Kingdom and as a member of 436 Squadron in Burma. After attending the British Empire Test Pilots School in Farnborough, England, he became senior test pilot with the RCAF’s Central Experimental and Proving Establishment in Ottawa in 1951. In 1958 he was a member of the Accident Investigation Bureau with the Directorate of Flight Safety in Ottawa. From 1963 to 1966 he was Officer Commanding No. 434 (bluenose) Squadron in Zweibrucken, Germany flying the CF104 tactical jet aircraft. Upon completion of Air Division duties, he was appointed commanding officer of the new aerobatic team. Wing Commander Philip is married to the former Maeve Armour of Sidney, B.C., and they have three children.
