Delta Marsh History Initiative, Steering Committee Meeting

Present:     Barry Bills, Shirley Christianson, Heidi den Haan, Gordon Goldsborough (sec), Bob Jones, Cynthia Jordan, Winnie Pauch, Glen Suggett

1.  Minutes of the last meeting (22 January 2007) were approved by consensus.

2.  Business

a)    Interviews – Linden and Brown interviews are being transcribed by Suggett. He has also transcribed some parts of the Lyon interview. He could not find some interview tapes among our files.

b)   Delta files – Goldsborough will contact the Delta Waterfowl Foundation again to request access to their archived files.

c)    Book outline – A copy was circulated.

d)   Campbell memoirs – Goldsborough spoke with Peter Lyon, who thought there was not much in the memoirs pertaining to Delta.

e)    Bank balance – $5,404.50.

f)    Cruzille photos – Goldsborough reported that Dr. Rod McKenzie located more photos of the Cruzille family at Delta and will send us copies.

g)   Breakwater memories – Christianson will write about this using information compiled for her by Suggett. Goldsborough will check his Public Works computer files regarding the breakwater and, if found, print excerpts for her.

h)   Book update – Suggett distributed manuscripts drafts of work done so far. He is now working on the “Murder Oak” story, looking through photos and files on the case obtained from Library and Archives Canada. He asked the committee to read, mark up with suggestions, and return to him.

i)     Long-time fishers award – Goldsborough informed the committee of this initiative of the provincial government, suggesting that we submit nominations on behalf of Delta fishers, including Bill Hutchinson, George Tomalin, and possibly others. Pauch will prepare the nomination papers.

3.  Next meeting: The next meeting will be held at the home of Shirley Christianson (118 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie) at 9:00 am on Monday, 23 April 2007.

4.  Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 AM.
